Listen carefully, my Puppy Chow Recipe is not for the faint of heart. You will never find weak puppy chow in my kitchen. You know what I mean The stuff that is so thinly coated with chocolate and peanut butter that the powdered sugar barely sticks to it Not on my watch. I want clumps, and globs, and hunks, and chunks of chocolate-peanut buttery goodness.
This puppy chow recipe is very easy to make, however the method matters, a LOT. I consider myself a muddy buddies expert, so I devised the absolute perfect method to making the best puppy chow ever - no butter required.
The key here is to start VERY conservatively with the amount of cereal! You do not, I repeat, do not want to use too much cereal. It will ruin your puppy chow, and consequently, your day.
Next, mix it all together, making sure the cereal is thickly coated . Then put the muddy buddies somewhere to cool off (outside in the winter, or in the refrigerator) before adding any powdered sugar.
Next, let the muddy buddies cool down even more (for about 15 or 20 more minutes) before adding a little more powdered sugar. You want to add just enough so that the puppy chow can be eaten without making your hands a chocolatey-mess.

Once the puppy chow is cool and hardened, store it in a large airtight container on the counter for up to 2 weeks. You can also keep puppy chow in the fridge if your kitchen is particularly warm, to prevent the chocolate from sticking.
This mix is a party favorite! Our buttery caramel popcorn is gently mixed with Chex Cereal, pretzel sticks, and a creamy peanut butter, then generously coated with milk chocolate and powdered sugar to give a perfect touch of sweetness. Get your snack on because this finger licking good treat will have you chowing down to the bottom of the bag.
I made this just the other night as little Christmas gifts for some girls I lead a Bible study for! They loved it and a few have already asked for the recipe! I love the peppermint spin on the puppy chow; next time I might even try adding some peppermint extract to the white chocolate! Thanks for sharing!!
Puppy chow, also known as monkey munch, muddy buddies, muddy munch, reindeer chow, or doggy bag, is the name for a homemade candy made in the United States, primarily in midwestern states. The recipe's name and ingredients can differ depending on the version, but most recipes will typically include cereal, melted chocolate, peanut butter (or other nut butters), and powdered sugar. Nut free versions can be made using nut butter alternatives, like Notnuts or sun butter. Cereals used in the recipes are usually Chex and/or Crispix. The true origins of the candy are not known.
Instead of making this into the classic recipe we all know and love, I wanted to give it a little flair. So I added M&Ms and sprinkles. And the best news You can do this, too, and make this puppy chow fit for various holidays.
Once prepared and set, puppy chow can be stored in a sealed container or freezer bag for up to two months. You can either thaw it before eating or eat it straight from the freezer like a frosty treat.
I love puppy chow as do all the kids in our family, when I make it I use peanut butter chips instead of the chocolate chips. This would be a really good way to make it with chocolate Chex , hmmmm next time!
I can still feel the blush of embarrassment crawling up my face as my second-grade teacher explained that her gift to me, puppy chow, was for humans, not actual dogs. She had given me the treat as I left early for winter break, and my parents sent me back in to return it. After all, we had no dog. We lived in Seattle, far from the Midwestern epicenter of the powdered-sugar-dusted, peanut-butter-and-chocolate-coated Chex cereal snack.
Walking your puppy regularly for bathroom breaks, exercise and play is crucial. And consistency is key! So, make sure to stay consistent with a schedule, especially when housetraining. There are plenty of apps to track and monitor exercise to make it part of your daily routine.
You know things are getting good when your snack is made up of cereal coated in chocolate and peanut butter. Like, I was already pretty excited about the cereal in the first place because I am OLD and have crossed over into the stage of life where eating cereal qualifies as a carby treat.
No, muddy Buddies will do just fine in a ziplock or an airtight container left out on the counter for about a week. Good luck making them last that long. If you prefer them cold (puppy chow is actually super delicious chilled), you can definitely keep the container in the refrigerator. You can even freeze them! Just toss them in a ziplock freezer bag, seal, and they should be good for 2-3 months.

Puppy food does have slightly higher levels of calcium and phosphorous when compared to most adult dog foods. Puppy food also has a higher fat and protein content, meaning there are more calories per bite than the adult version of the same brand. Well meaning people will recommend that the adult formulas are fed because of the lower calcium and phosphorous, however these minerals are only slightly less than the puppy formula. In order to meet the protein and caloric needs of a puppy eating an adult formula, a substantially larger quantity of adult formula must be fed, resulting in the ingestion of even more calcium and phosphorous than the puppies would have had they just stuck with the puppy formula!
Then the phone rang. It was a woman calling about a black puppy. With nothing to lose, I drove through a hurricane the next day to meet him. It was the best thing I ever did in my life. I brought that puppy home and he saved my life. Ozzy was my mushy mood stabilizer.
Every puppy is a little different, so optimal feeding amounts may vary with age, size, activity level, breed, and environment. Please use feeding guidelines as an initial recommendation and adjust as needed.
Cute, furry, and hungry. Your new pet is ready for puppy food, and you want to make sure you start them off right. Puppies grow fast. And providing the proper nutrition is important for building strong bones and teeth, adding muscle, and supplying all the energy needed for play and learning.
Large-breed puppy foods are designed for controlled growth and may be lower in calcium and phosphorus than other puppy foods. Excess levels of calcium and phosphorus can contribute to skeletal problems. Large-breed puppy food also may contain more fiber to add bulk to the diet without calories.
Some foods that people enjoy can be harmful to dogs. Keep your puppy away from avocados, chocolate, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, and raw bread dough made with yeast. Also avoid onions, garlic, and chives; milk and large amounts of dairy products such as cheese; alcohol; coffee and caffeine; salty food, such as potato chips; and food sweetened with xylitol, such as gum, baked goods, and candy. Xylitol, also used in products such as toothpaste, can cause liver failure and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) in dogs. 781b155fdc
